call for a european action day 29//10//2005

The collective attempts by more than four thousand migrants to cross the borders between Africa and Europe have shown the brutality of the European border regime. In the last two weeks ten people were shot dead by border police. Since then, Moroccan authorities have rounded up and “deported more than 2,500 people, and abandoned them without food and water in the Sahara Desert. More than 36 people have died there so far.

The news of the past two weeks shows only a small part of the brutality at Europe’s borders, where hundreds of migrants drown every year crossing the Straights of Gibralter, suffocate in trucks, or are blown up by landmines in the fields between Greece and Turkey.

The reaction of the Spanish Government and the European Comission is military reinforcement of the borders and externalising the “management of migrants. European colonialism and economic policies created the sitations that are forcing people to flee. Now, being pushed by the German government and others, refugees are being made invisible to Europe; caught way before the borders and held in “transit prisons far away. Third countries, such as Morocco are made to handle the situation in exchange for economic aid. The EU has given 40 million Euro to Morocco to build up border defences. The Moroccan government uses these deals to systematically violate human rights, torturing, deporting and murdering migrants.

Across Europe groups are organising acts to reject this brutality at the borders. We are calling for a coordinated day of action on 29th October 2005.

Another callout

Translation of the callout published here at Indymedia Estrecho: estrecho.indymedia.org/newswire/display_any/16170

Come on, mates and partners! Apart from the urgent acts and meetings, it´s time to coordinate ourselveses for a concrete date for common action throughout Europe. Everybody out to the streets!

The situation we are living at the southern european and north moroccan borders grows more and more untenable. The collective attempts to cross the border made by our migrant brothers and sisters have showed nothing but the sheer brutality of the European border regime.

In the last month 10 people were shot killed by the border policemen as they attempted to jump over the barb wired fences and it is estimated that many others also died after they were abandoned in the desert by Moroccan authorities.

The Spanish Government reaction, in particular, as well as that expressed by the European Union in general have been adressed to reinforce military the borders and to leave the lives of thousands of african migrants in the hands of the Moroccan Government. This process fits into the European project to externalize the management of the migratory flows to third countries, by means of generous economic contributions.

The Moroccan Government, after these agreements, finds himself backed up to act with total impunity, violating systematically the human rights, torturing, deporting and killing many immigrants.

In many european places different sectors are beginning to organize protests in the face of the brutality deployed by the Spanish, Moroccan and European Governments to manage this situation.

For all these reasons we call out to a coordinated protest day on the 29th of October to go out together once more to the european streets in order to demonstrate, concentrate, parade, carry out actions and make every kind of event to defend the migrant people´s rights and to express our oposition towards the brutality of our border policies.

No more deaths at the Border.
Judgement and punishment to the responsibles of the killings.
In favour of an independent commission to research the Moroccan management of the deportations.
Be welcome all the refugees of the capitalist war against humanity.
Freedom of Movement ot the citizens of the World.

Re: callout: european day of action for migrant rights 29th october.
