The Mexican Revolution of 1910 is currently travelling through the American Continent. The Casasola Museum is presenting a historic and unique exhibition that recounts in detail about what happened --and is presently happening-- in Mexico in relation to the 100th anniversary of the first revolution of the 20th Century. THE REVOLUTION (Casasola Museum) TOUR 1910- 2010
Mexico 2010: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
The Mexican Revolution of 1910 is currently travelling through the American Continent. The Casasola Museum is presenting a historic and unique exhibition that recounts in detail about what happened --and is presently happening-- in Mexico in relation to the 100th anniversary of the first revolution of the 20th Century. We’re talking here about an independent project to display this exhibit throughout cities and towns of the continent, without the interference of official history during these celebrations.
The exhibit will undertake a retrospective analysis of the history of the Mexican Revolution and the tracks or footprints it has left during these last 100 years. This event will include the participation of intellectuals, artists, academicians, outstanding members of the community and expert specialists on the theme of the Mexican Revolution.
The 7th of March of 2008, in Houston, Texas, a continental trip was initiated with the participation of the Casasola Museum in FotoFest 2008 at the University of Houston. This journey will come to an end on the 30th of November of 2010.
During 2008 and 2009, this audiovisual exhibit will visit the main cities of the US and Canada, while during 2010 it will travel through some countries in Latin America and finally come to a close in the city of Houston.
The Casasola Museum is carrying out this travelling exhibition in order to show more than 1,000 audiovisual images of the exhibit entitled “A Hundred Years of Reality,” by Carlos Vigueras, in which the objective is to display what has happened during the last hundred years pertaining to to the social, political, economic and cultural life of the Mexican nation.
This exhibit about the first revolution of the twentieth century will be presented in a direct-access-for-the-community-at-large format, in order to show Mexican reality during the last 100 years, and the relationship of Mexico with its two neighbors, the US and Guatemala.
Valuable images by professional photojournalists from Mexico and the US will also be part of this travelling exhibit, which aims to become an evaluation model designed to better comprehend the historical reality of Mexico’s past, present and future.
Excellent images by photojournalists, led by Víctor Agustín Casasola, who were the first auxiliary historians that participated in the Mexican Revolution of 1910, as well as the members of three later generations, will be united in this project of the Casasola Museum and exhibited directly to the international community.
This exhibit covers a century of Mexico’s graphic history, and is organized by Federico Casasola and Carlos Vigueras. The travelling exhibit will be displayed during the next two years in universities, public libraries, community centers, parks and public gardens, train depots, galleries, museums, public and private schools, various institutions, and national as well as international organizations.
The Center for Mexican American Studies of the University of Houston, the Casasola Fund, Bilingual Talent/Talento Bilingüe, La Nueva Raza, Mexiamérica/Casa de las Américas, Houston Community College, Educational Community Center, as well as other organizations, are coming together and joining hands in order to back this travelling independent project titled Mexico 2010: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. These organizations will analyze, evaluate, review and/or present cultural, artistic and academic works about the history of Mexico and its role in the world.
We hereby invite all cultural, academic, research and artistic organizations, as well as non-profit, alternative and community agencies, to participate in the events that will emerge from their own proposals, exhibitions and presentations, according to the list of invitations that will be received during the next few months.
The exhbit will also include conferences, forums, and several types of exhibitions, including book exhibits, disc exhibits, as well as exhibits of posters, cartoons, documents and much, much more.
